HE might have only just turned 20 but Alan Major has reverted to the old school as he begins a promising career in the competitive world of Motor sport.

The Ipswich racer is currently sixth in his first season competing in the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club 250 Single Cylinder Challenge.

The former Copleston High School pupil got into the sport when he was 17 and rides a 1971 Ducati 250cc mark 3 bike, owned by his dad’s friend, John Hynes.

Major has already raced at Donington, Brands Hatch, Darley Moor and Cadwell and Snetterton.

“The season has not gone too bad considering it is my first one,” said Major.

“They may be old bikes but the series is still really competitive and I have always been into the classic models.

“It is all about having the money available to compete and if I can get the funds together, I am definitely up for racing again next year.”

After buying fuel for the bike and an ACU licence, one tyre for Major’s bike costs 154 while the rider entry fee for each round of the competition is around 200.
