DAVID Beckham will be left out of Fabio Capello's first England, according to a report.

The new national coach will announce a preliminary squad for next week's friendly against Switzerland at Wembley later today, but according to Sky Sports News Beckham's name will not feature.

The former England captain, who was famously dropped by Capello last season when he managed Beckham at Real Madrid, had hoped to win his 100th cap against Switzerland.

Beckham, who now plays for Los Angeles Galaxy in America's Major League Soccer, has been training with Arsenal in a bid to be fit for next week's match. Earlier this week he was in Brazil to promote the opening of the latest David Beckham Football Academy.

Capello broke the news to the 32 year-old in a phone call last night, but is understood to have told Beckham that he could still feature in future squads once he proves his match fitness.
