THE ground at Debenham Leisure Centre might not be the most auspicious in the land - but it means a tremendous amount to a determined ground hopper from Darlington.
It was the only venue he had failed to visit in the Ridgeons League - and he put that right last night.
Debenham joint manager Mel Aldis said: “I had a phone call from a man in Darlington wanting to confirm that our game against Hadleigh was definitely going ahead.
“He was travelling by train to Stowmarket and then getting a taxi to Debenham. I hope he enjoyed his long journey - and the match.”
Trevor Wardlaw, who is joint manager with Aldis, missed the match as he is currently on a Saga coach holiday in the Cotswolds with his partner Karen.
“I am sure he will be enjoying it,” said Aldis. “But I am not so sure how his companions will fare!”
