Police had to shut Norwich Road in Ipswich tonight after Portuguese fans spilled out of two cafes into the street after their team beat France 1-0 to win Euro 2016.
Officers re-opened the road around an hour after the game had finished and described the supporters’ behaviour as good-natured.
Dozens of fans had roared their team on at the Bicafé o Português cafe in Norwich Road and saw Portugal emerge victorious after extra time,
Many donned their favourite team shirts while others went all out in their support by spraying their hair the colours of the national flag.
Twenty-five-year-old Gonzalo Lopez, who had been following the tournament with friends at the cafe, said: “Everybody is friendly, following the football and having drinks with friends.
“It’s exciting.”
