JAMIE Moul had a frustrating start to the new season when competing in the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational over the par 72 Frederica course at Sea Island Golf Complex in Georgia.

His opening round of seven over par 79 virtually put him out of contention. He was three over after four but birdies at the fourth and six were cancelled out by bogeys at the fifth and seventh. Three dropped shots on the final two holes made it even worse after bogeys at the 10th and 13th and a birdie at the 15th.

Moul's second round of 76 left him amongst the strugglers. He was out in 41 which was five over but was one under on his second nine with birdies at the final two holes to help wipe away the misery of his first round. Moul started his final round with two more dropped shots in five holes which must put his second place in the world amateur rankings in jeopardy after this event is included.
