Once again good old Felixstowe has led the way with catches of codling being taken from both beach and river marks.

The rivers are a great back-up at this time of year. In fact they are still producing most of the codling which are being caught.

The Rivers Alde and Orwell are the most popular, with the word getting out that Orford is seeing more than its fair share.

It's amazing just how far up our rivers codling will travel.

I know of one angler taking several whiting as far as the Orwell Bridge earlier in the season and I expect that even the codling will show if you reach the deep-water channel in the middle of the river.

Back to Felixstowe for the moment where several good catches have been reported.

A Felixstowe Sea Anglers club match at the weekend was won with over 10lbs of fish by Jason Banham.

Added to this several anglers were catching codling, dabs, whiting and rockling just inside the river mouth at Landguard Point.

It seems the shingle bank is on the move again. this time with the aide of man! I wonder how long it will stay in its present position?

I'm sure before long it will be being dredged up from the main shipping channel!

As we move deeper into December the dabs should start to show in the river, again the stretch between the car park and the point will fish the best.

Remember small hooks and baits for the dabs. They feed ferociously but only have very small mouths.

Boat action from Felixstowe has been minimal due to the weather. Boats that have braved the cold wind and fished the river mouth have found several codling although few seem to better 2lb.
