AN IPSWICH football team are celebrating after winning a seven-a-side competition in the town.

BIFA FC won the Bangladeshi Ipswich Football Association tournament held at Copleston Sports Centre last Sunday.

They overcame Seven Star, who were drawn from players in the Whitton area of Ipswich, 4-3 on penalties in the final following a 0-0 stalemate.

BIFA had won their semi-final 3-0 against Nation United (Chelmsford) and Seven Star defeated Finsbury Park 2-1.

A total of 14 teams entered the tournament - seven from Ipswich and the surrounding area, two each from Colchester and Norwich, plus teams from Chelmsford, London and Surrey.

Around 300 spectators turned out to watch the tournament. Among them were representatives from Ipswich Town FC including goalkeeper Shane Supple, goalkeeping coach Andy Rhodes and director of communications Terry Baxter, and Wolfe Powell, chairman of Copleston FC.

Among those to support the event were Copleston FC, the ITFC Community Trust and the Evening Star.
