IPSWICH Town footballers were in cricketing action last night as part of their preparation for the 2008-9 season.

They were in action against Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship First Division Ipswich and East Suffolk (IES CC) at Chantry Park in what has become an annual fixture.

Manager Jim Magilton selected a team made up of mostly first team players, which took revenge for last year's narrow defeat.

The footballers scored 148 for seven in 18.4 overs in reply to Ipswich and East Suffolk's 147 for six from their 20 overs.

Man of the match for Ipswich Town was Jordan Rhodes and for Ipswich and East Suffolk was James Barker.

Top scorers for Ipswich Town were David Wright (29), Jim Magilton (27 not out) and Wayne Coghlan (27). For Ipswich and East Suffolk top scorers were T. Debenham (31), and K. Mildenhall (26) while J. Barker took a hat-trick. More than 1,000 people watched the match.

Former Ipswich Town manager and an IES CC vice president, Sir Bobby Robson, donated a limited edition signed framed montage of his footballing life that was the main raffle price.

A collection was made for the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Foundation with the teams playing for the SEH/BAC Windows and Doors trophy and Mad Rabbit Recruitment sponsoring the man of the match awards. KPMG was the match sponsor.
