STAR striker Francis Jeffers today confirmed his keenness to join Ipswich Town on a permanent basis.

The 26-year-old's parent club Blackburn Rovers is to confirm whether they are to let the ex-England international go this week now that their Premier League campaign is over.

Jeffers has a contract at Ewood Park until next summer and manager Mark Hughes wanted to wait until the start of the close season to assess whether he needs Jeffers or not in 2007/08.

A big hit with Ipswich while on loan this spring with four goals in nine appearances, Jeffers confirmed he is hoping to move to Portman Road full time.

“Ipswich fans have not seen the best of me yet, but I think my nightmare is coming to an end,” he said.

“You only have to look at the manager and the training ground to see this club belongs in the top flight.

“And the fans have been great, which makes a big difference.

“If Mark Hughes is happy for me to leave Blackburn then Ipswich would be my choice. I am sure I can agree a deal.”

There is a danger that other clubs might now be in the hunt for Jeffers following his good form with Ipswich, but Town remain his first choice.

The financial side of a full transfer is not expected to be a problem and along with 30,000 Town supporters, Jeffers is keeping his fingers crossed he receives the news he wants to hear this week.
