PSWICH Town manager Joe Royle today offered his congratulations to West Ham on winning their way to the Premiership via the play-offs.

The Hammers finished 12 points behind third-placed Ipswich in the Championship, but Royle is in no mood to feel sorry for himself.

He said: “I am not a great lover of the play-offs as everybody knows.

“But that is the system and on that basis West Ham deserve their promotion having won at Portman Road twice, Sunderland and Wigan during the season.

“They are a big club and a nice club and I am sure they will be making a impact in the top flight.

“Alan Pardew has done exceptionally well to reach the play-offs two years running. It is not easy and getting through the play-offs is not easy either.

“I watched yesterday's game on television and rather suspected that West Ham would win through.

“I feel for Billy Davies and Preston North End, as they had done very well, but my congratulations go to West Ham.”
