AFC Sudbury ended the year with an unbeaten league record at Kings Marsh, but had to wait for a second-half goal blitz before overcoming a spirited young Newmarket side which, for 45 minutes, belied their lowly league position.

After Sam Banya's first-minute cross had just eluded Gary Bennett, Shaw came close to giving Newmarket a shock lead, shooting inches past the far post after being put clear by Stokes.

Bishop then blocked a close-range effort from Stokes at the expense of a corner, and Ben Nower was relieved to see Loven's header finish just wide.

Banya side-footed Rayner's cross into the side-netting before Sudbury's Nower managed to parry a stinging angled shot from Sobiechowski.

Oxborough touched Bennett's shot onto the bar and then dropped on the rebound but, with the half looking to end goalless, Bennett swooped onto Rayner's cross five minutes before the break to slam the ball into the net.

The second half was just 13 seconds old when Rayner picked out Bennett with a perfect cross for him to head powerfully home.

This was the signal for a siege on the Newmarket goal, with Oxborough twice excelling with saves from Michael Cheetham, and Loven heading Bennett's goal-bound shot off the line.

Then three goals in the space of 10 minutes had the young Newmarket side reeling.

After 67 minutes Cheetham's shot deflected into the path of Banya who shot home and, within a minute, Banya dummied over the ball, turned and ran on to Bennett's return pass to shoot low past Oxborough.

A brilliant four-man move ended with Tracey powering a header past Oxborough, and it became six in the last minute, Banya creating space before unselfishly squaring the ball to give Bennett the chance to net his first league hat-trick of the season.
