SQUASH: The Squash Club Championships for Ipswich Sports Club (ISC) took place on May 2002, with a full range of junior and senior events.The ISC boasts some of the top senior and junior players in the county.

The Squash Club Championships for Ipswich Sports Club (ISC) took place on May 2002, with a full range of junior and senior events.

In the Under-11s event Scott Fryer beat Joel Smith 3-0.

In the U-13s, Jack Simpson beat Charlotte Wroe 3-1 in a closely- fought contest. The U-17s was won by Sam Howell who beat Mark Knights 3-0 and Sam also won the U-19s, beating Jared Norman 3-0.

In the Over-35s, Peter Hewitt faced Mike Stokeld. Both players were at the top of their form in a long, drawn-out match. Peter eventually won a very closely fought and entertaining contest 3-1. In the Over-45s, Mike Stokeld beat Dave Howell 3-0.

The Handicap final saw Jared Norman versus Rhys Glide. Jared had a handicap advantage of plus six in the best of three games up to 21 points. The first game went to Jared 21-18, but Rhys' fitness counted in the long run and took the next two games to win 2-1.

In the men's doubles, Sam Howell and Adam Day faced the father-and- son team of Alan and Jared Norman (in his third final of the day).

Sam and Adam won a highly entertaining match 2-1.

In the ladies final, Maggie Lipscombe (six-times champion) was up against Pam McCartney. Pam fought well, but Maggie's experience pulled her through to win her seventh ladies title – how many more can she win?

In the men's event, Ali Livingstone faced Sam Howell in his fourth final of the day.

Sam started well, playing hard, aggressive squash and both players were quick on the volley.

Ali maintained the pressure and worked Sam from corner to corner, Sam managed some incredible retrieves, however, the pace of the match and the previous games on the day took their toll and Ali won 3-0 in a highly-entertaining match.
