Mid Suffolk youngsters receive sporting grants
STOWMARKET High School pupil and England international Katherine Rednall was one of 23 young people to be handed a sporting grant at Mid Suffolk District Council’s Outstanding Young Sports People Awards.
The outstanding talent, from Baylam, is a member of the England Under-18s team. She has also won the Suffolk County Ladies Singles, County Ladies Two-Bowl Singles, County Mixed Triples and reached the All-England Semi-Final of the Ladies U25’s Singles in Indoors.
In the outdoor game, she won the County Mixed Pairs and the Under-25 Ladies’ Pairs.
During the October Half Term Katherine was chosen by the International Selectors to play in the World Under-25 Singles, winning four of her six matches and her consistency has been rewarded by being chosen for the England Ladies Under-25s Trials.
Suffolk One student, Joshua Webster, from Mickfield was another winner. Joshua competed at Silverstone in last year’s Formula Renault BARC Vice Championships, winning three races, earning nine podiums and taking four fastest laps from 10 race finishes.
In the 2010 Formula Renault Winter Championships he achieved five wins, six podiums, six fastest laps and one lap record. Recently he finished third overall in the Formula Renault BARC Championship at Snetterton in Norfolk and has been invited to join the British Racing Drivers Club as a rising star. Joshua will be taking part in the Formula Renault UK National Championships 2012.
Barham’s Samantha Witherall was also a recipient, having represented Great Britain in France at artistic rollerskating. She placed third in 2011 in a national competition an went on to compete in the British Free Skating Championships, finishing third in her age group. She has been awarded a place in the GB Free Skating squad.
