Mixed doubles badminton still popular

THE ever-popular mixed doubles badminton handicapped tournament organised by the Ipswich YMCA Badminton Club was held on Sunday.This tournament formerly the “McNeil” and now sponsored by Harpers, is now the 37th annual event.

This tournament formerly the “McNeil” and now sponsored by Harpers, is now the 37th annual event.

This year the handicapper in the main had their figures correct so ensuring many close and keenly contested games. The winners of the three sections James Scott, Charlie Aldred, Robert Dennis, Janet Mulvey, Martin Waters, Laura Jacobs, together with the runners-up in each section James Cantrell, Alys Kindred, Callum Phair, Holly Sherrington, John White, Natalie Collins competed in the finals.

Details as follows:

Quarter finals: Maria Waters, Laura Jacobs minus 3 beat John White, Natalie Colins scratch 21-12, James Cantrell, Alys Kindred scratch bt Callum Phair, Holly Sherrington plus 10 21-16.

Semi-finals: James Scott, Charlie Aldred plus 8 bt Martin Waters, Laura Jacobs minus 3 21-19, James Cantrell, Alys Kindred scratch bt Robert Dennis, Janet Mulvey minis 6 owe one hand 21-19.

The president of the YMCA Badminton Club then presented the trophy to the winner together with prizes to both winners and runners up.
