IPSWICH Town fan and 13th seed, Kevin Painter, was a first round casualty in the Ladbrokes.com world darts championship yesterday.

Cambridgeshire-based Painter, who attends matches at Portman Road whenever his playing commitments allow, lost to England's Colin Osborne at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet.

Painter, the 2004 runner-up, was the last of the 11 seeds to bow out at the first-round stage as he lost 3-1 to rising star Osborne, who is unseeded.

Seven of the 16 second-round matches were taking place today, the highlight being the clash between top seed Colin Lloyd and four-time Lakeside world champion Raymond van Barneveld.

Ipswich-born darts star Keith Deller failed to qualify for the championships.

The 1983 Embassy world champion was knocked out at a qualifying event held at Villa Park, Birmingham.

Deller, who will be 47 on Christmas Eve, has dropped out of the top 32 players.
