IPSWICH pub footballers can now pit their wits against fellow players and teams from around the country.

A special pub football awards scheme is being set up for next season.

The yearly awards will give players, league administrators and fans an opportunity to put forward colleagues and teams for the following categories: pub football player, pub football team, pub football manager, pub football administrator and an award for the pub team most in need of help.

Carling are sponsoring the awards and they accompany the launch of Carling's Pub Football Community, www.carling.com/pubfootball which allows players and administrators in Ipswich to set-up a free website for their team or league; complete with player profiles, a manager's blog and video footage.

Mark Clemmit, a BBC Radio Five Live reporter and one of awards' judging panel said: “Every week, hundreds of thousands of pub players turn out because they love the game.

“We believe they, along with team managers, deserve to be recognised so I encourage people in Ipswich to get their entries in for the inaugural Carling Pub Football awards.”

The winners of each category will receive their awards in person - with Clemmit heading the panel of judges.
