Royston 2 Felixstowe 1

A RUN of three straight wins came to an abrupt halt for a slightly weakened Felixstowe who were looking to climb out of the bottom half of Division Two North of the Printwize East League.

Although they started well, Felixstowe failed to dominate the centre of the field and they went behind when a break on the right was finished off by Royston's centre forward, who, with his back to goal, conjured up a neat finish.

The seasiders refused to lie down and stuck to their game plan of hitting the home side on the break which paid dividends when Steve Taylor provided an ideal pass for Gavin Haggart to equalise.

With Felixstowe's thoughts turning to another victory, Royston had other ideas and they added a second fortunate goal when the ball was flicked over keeper Dick Smith's leg and rolled, almost in slow motion, inside the left hand post.

Felixstowe had chances to redress the balance but Haggart saw a penalty flick saved while another chance went begging in front of an open goal.

The statistic of just one shot on target from eight short corners told its own story and Felixstowe can only blame themselves for the defeat.
