RUGBY Union training begins at Ipswich this week – at least for those who have not taken part in the summer conditioning sessions.

Full pre-season training starts tomorrow/today, Tuesday, July 9 at Humber Doucy Lane and continues from 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the season.

However, a number of Ipswich players have spent the summer months since the end of last season, keeping in trim with regular midweek toning sessions by fitness experts. Several of the Ipswich Rugby Union teams have also been involved with the Ipswich Rhinos Rugby League team during the summer.

Mike Hancock, Ipswich's Director of Rugby, said: "We need to make sure that when the season starts, we are all fully fit and sharp and ready to go.

"I hope as many players as possible during July and August, rather than wait until a week or two for the first match and then expect to be up to speed after only a couple of sessions."

Last season, Ipswich, along with local rivals Diss and Sudbury, survived the London League Division Two North, despite being under the threat of relegation in the second half of the season.

Ipswich are looking to strengthen their squad and any players new to the area will be welcome at the midweek training sessions or may contact Mike Hancock on 07711 402775 for further information about Ipswich Rugby Union Club.
