FIFTEEN-year-old Scorpion Academy kickboxer Curtis Porter recently competed in the ISKA (International Sport Kickboxing Association) British Championships held in Manchester.

The youngster managed to come home with a silver medal having had two very hard fights on the day.

Such was the effort that he demonstrated, the tournament organisers and officials officially offered him a place on the Great Britain team to fight in Hungary in February 2007.

Curtis trains at the Scorpion Martial Arts Academy based in Stowmarket under chief coach Master Mark Trent - sixth degree blackbelt.

Master Trent said: “Curtis trains alongside the senior kickboxers and always puts in 100 per cent effort. He has already achieved the coveted black belt in Scorpion Karate and will soon gain his black belt in kickboxing.

“Curtis has competed in the kickboxing ring and has the drive and determination to go on and win a world title belt one day in the future.”

The Scorpion Academy is currently helping to raise funds for the trip and if any businesses or individuals would like to become involved please call Mark Trent on 07708 644162.

All Scorpion classes run from the Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket and offer separate junior and senior karate and kickboxing classes.
