Preparations are well under way for the Medite Ipswich Indoor Cricket squad as they prepare for the new season as the reigning National League Champions.

The season begins with the British Open at the beginning of November in Birmingham and the Suffolk side will be looking to win this title for the first time in their history.

This year sees the competition go International for the first time with sides from South Africa taking part.

Medite Ipswich Manager, Brian Barnard said "We proved last year what a great squad we had and have managed to keep it together this year. This season is going to be harder as we are the team to beat, but I believe we are not only as strong as last year, but better with many players gaining valuable International experience.

"The British Open is going to be harder to win than ever before. We know pretty much the strengths and weaknesses of the UK sides, but if reports on the South African sides prove to be correct then it will make a very interesting weekend for all of us".

Last year, Medite Ipswich went into the season with just two recognised England international players in Rik Saggers and Michael Edmond along with South African U23] Russell Ongers. This season there will be three more internationals to join them with Gavin Driver, Mark Smith and Chris Norton all making their international debuts over the summer. Norton and Edmond have just returned from New Zealand where England finished fourth in the World Cup.

Medite Ipswich are constantly looking to improve their players and their squad. Barnard added "We pride ourselves on the fact that we try as hard as possible to use local players and bring them through to the full side. What we are looking for are players who are committed and enthusiastic and can bat and bowl reasonably well."

If you think you are one of these people then why not find out. Medite Ipswich train at the Sports Stadium, Ipswich on Henley Road between 6pm and 8pm every Thursday and anyone is welcome to attend. Alternatively you can ring Brian on 07736 460913 or Neil on 01473 256411.
