IPSWICH Town's miserable start to the season continued when they went down 4-1 at First Division leaders WBA today to hit rock bottom of the First Division.

And to make matters worse for the suffering Suffolk side the opening Albion goal was scored by Thomas Gaardsoe, the player sold by Town to the Baggies last month.

Ipswich gave debuts to their new loan players Alan Mahon and Chris Bart-Williams. It was so hard for the Town but both showed promise for the future.

The writing was on the wall for Ipswich when Rob Hulse made it 2-0 after 15 minutes. He added another early in the second half before Richard Naylor pulled one back for Town. Drissa Diallo headed past his own keeper to give WBA the fourth.

The alarm bells are ringing very loudly at Portman Road and they desperately need success against Walsall on Tuesday and Wimbledon on Saturday. This is the worst start to the season since the early 1970s under Bobby Robson's early reign. Now Joe Royle has a similar problem and he may move in even stronger next week to try to sign Duncan Ferguson from Everton on loan.
