LOUIS Newman is set to be named the new manager of Ipswich Wanderers - and he cannot wait to get started.

Out of the game since September 2004 when he left Hadleigh United five months after winning the Suffolk Senior Cup at Portman Road, Newman will take over from John Clarkson at Humber Doucy Lane.

Just back from a three-week family holiday in the United States, Newman has had an interview with the Ridgeons League, Premier Division club.

There are a few minor details to sort out before tomorrow's annual general meeting when an official announcement is expected to be made.

“I am certainly one of the candidates,” said Newman today.

“I met the chairman last week, and there have been other people interviewed.

“There are a couple of things to sort out, but I have had a break and can't wait to get started again.

“There were other things I wanted to do when I left Hadleigh, but I found I had no more time afterwards than I had when I was doing the job.

“The previous Wanderers manager ran things his way, and it will be back to basics now.

“There are bags of potential at Ipswich Wanderers, and with ambitious plans to improve facilities at the club you could say it is a sleeping giant.”

Last season Wanderers finished tenth in the Premier Division, reached the final of the Ridgeons League Cup and were beaten in the last 16 by eventual FA Vase finalists AFC Totton.
