COLCHESTER United “need more bottle” if they are to drag themselves out of the relegation mire. That is the verdict of manager Geraint Williams.

The U's slumped to the foot of the Championship table, following a defeat at previous basement dwellers QPR in a pulsating and often bad-tempered duel in west London.

A brace of goals from Hungarian front-runner Akos Buzsaky proved sufficient to lift Rangers above the U's, who could only respond through a goal from star man Mark Yeates just after the hour mark.

“We need more self-belief and we need more bottle,” insisted boss Williams.

“We are down at the bottom for a reason. We have simply not picked up enough points, while others around us have.

“We have got to be more positive, not just for 45 minutes but for the whole 90. There are three games coming thick and fast over the Christmas period, and we need to get some wins quickly,” admitted the Welshman.

It was a bad day all-round for the U's. Midfielder Kem Izzet ended up in hospital with a dislocated and badly cut thumb, while fellow relegation rivals Preston, Norwich and Blackpool all won.
