STANTON'S impressive first-half performance ensured their progress to the second round of this Suffolk Senior Cup match played at rainswept Notcutts Park.

Stanton soaked up early pressure as Calver's header was saved by Baker, but then took total control for the remainder of the first half. Ross opened the scoring on 25 minutes from a Hazleton free-kick and five minutes later, Dixon gifted Turner with a goal as the keeper dropped the ball from a Musgrove cross. Hazleton's corner was met by Bates to increase Stanton's lead before Dixon made an excellent save to keep the score at 3-0.

The second half was mostly Athletic as they pushed forward. Smith's shot was saved by Baker. Bouttelle slipped when in a good goal-scoring position and Broom battled without much joy.
