An Ipswich resident has said again that it is a "pity" that a neglected three-post exercise feature in Christchurch Park has not yet been fixed.

In December, Ipswich Borough Council said that its parks team was aiming to fix the broken part and expected to hear back in less than a week with when the part can be installed.

The park, which is home to the historic Tudor Christchurch Mansion, features three broken posts on the footpath near the Henley Road entrance, after crossing the bridleway.

It is understood the posts have been out of use for some time, and resident Peter Wright says is a "pity" to not have these features restored.

Mr Wright said: "We are still waiting but that seems the way of so many things lately. It is just disappointing. I don't feel as though anything is being fixed much in the town.

"I pass the feature every day and I just think it is a pity. I love Christchurch Park. I try and go down there for a walk every day.

"There were half a dozen or so interesting features along that path, and this particular one had three bars on it.

"One fell off a couple of years ago, and now the other one has fallen off. It's a shame, but the trouble is so many things are neglected around the town these days."

A spokesperson from Ipswich Borough Council said: “Our parks team contacted the original manufacturer of this piece of fitness equipment at the end of 2023, with the aim of installing a replacement for the broken part.

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to source this from the original manufacturer and so we had to look for an alternative supplier.

"We are now awaiting delivery from that new supplier of the replacement part, which is being made from steel and so will be much more durable.

"As soon as that arrives, repair of the equipment can go ahead to get it back in working order again.”
