There is concern within the Kesgrave and Martlesham community after two Year 7 boys were attacked by older students by being sprayed in the face with deodorant cans.

The incident, which happened in a park near Gorseland Primary School in Martlesham, happened at about 5.15pm last Saturday.

The attackers, believed to be three teenagers from Kesgrave, were on their bikes when they came across the two boys leaving the park.

They allegedly taunted them before spraying the two boys in the face with deodorant spray.

The boys, one of them with asthma, went back home and decided to call the police who turned up.

One of the victims' parents said: "You don't know what to think of this.

"It was all a bit vague, especially when you get a call from the police saying there has been an incident involving your son.

"I just can't understand why you would be carrying around a deodorant can around if you're at that age.

"The only reason I can see is to do something malicious with it.

"It's a nice area, and it's just really disappointing this happened."

It is believed the police went to the boy's school to look at yearbook photos and identify who the three boys could be.

The parent added: "My son is fine, he was a bit shaken up on the Sunday after and didn't leave the house.

"When you're a parent you think that something could happen, a little verbal bullying, but this is beyond what I imagined.

"Assaulting someone with deodorant goes beyond just the verbal teasing."

Mr Tim Legg, deputy headteacher at Kesgrave High School, said: "We have been made aware of an incident that took place in the community on Saturday.

"As is our normal approach to any incidents that occur locally, we are liaising with the police in order to help support their investigations."
