A Suffolk medieval re-enactment group has raised enough money to  install three bleed kits in Ipswich and the surrounding area after completing a 5k run wearing five stone of full armour.

Suffolk Swords has raised more than £1,700 from their 5k run fundraiser with members wearing full armour.

In some cases, the armour can weigh north of five stone, with runners wearing helmets, body armour and leg protection.

Around 50 people took part in the run, with all that competed getting wooden medals, and those in armour getting metal medals.

Dave Kirkby, a long-standing Suffolk Swords member,  said: "It went really well.

"A few of us were trying to figure out how much weight we had on us for the 5k, and I was wearing around five and a half stone worth of kit.

"It's heavy, but it also can restrict breathing a bit and doesn't have much breathability anywhere on your body.

"When you're running, you get hot anyway, let alone wearing five stone worth of kit so by the end of it, it was pretty unpleasant."

The group has raised enough money to buy three bleed kits, with any excess going to charity Be Lucky Anti Crime Foundation.

Mr Kirkby continued: "It's been amazing to do this.

"As part of a group that trains with swords and has an understanding of bladed combat, we are aware of the kind of injuries that can happen.

"With this we have raised that level of awareness and money, and it has been amazing."

The group plan to put one box outside the Dove Inn Pub in Ipswich, as it is a regular hang-out spot for the group, with the other two potentially being located on the outskirts of Ipswich.
