The team behind the Felixstowe Ferris wheel that has been a huge success over the summer by the seaside has said they hope to return next year.

The 34.5-metre-high wheel that has been in Felixstowe for the last couple of months took its last spin on Sunday, but the organisers hope it won't be too long before it returns.

The View, by Essex-based Observation Attractions Company, first opened in August between the promenade and Sea Road.

Since its opening the wheel has seen huge success, with Paul Hedges, director of Observation Attractions Company, stating "how long is a piece of string" in answer to the amount of people that had been on it.

He added: "It's been really well received.

"It's just been really popular, the feedback we have received has been amazing.

"There has been a lot of love for it, praising its look at night and lots of people said they would be sad to see it go.

"It went down well with the Tour of Britain and the Love Felixstowe Festival as well, which all tied in really nicely, and obviously the good weather helped."

While the wheel has only been a temporary attraction for the last couple of months, the organisers have said they would love to bring it back to the Suffolk town.

Mr Hedges added: "We'd love it to come back.

"If we can come back, then we would love to be there in time for spring, and then we can stay throughout the whole summer season."

Kate Cain, Felixstowe Business Improvement District manager, echoed these thoughts, saying: "It's been a cheerful talking point and we'd wholly support a comeback next year - just make it sooner."

Mr Hedges went on to thank all customers who have taken a ride on the wheel during August, September and October.

He said: "Thank you to everyone for their support and custom."
