A music festival that took place this summer in five locations around the town has been nominated for a national award.

Brighten The Corners Festival has been nominated for the Best Small Festival of the Year in the UK 2023 Festival Awards.

The two-day festival was held in June over a hot and sunny weekend, bringing thousands of people to different venues around Ipswich to listen to a variety of music.

These venues included the Corn Exchange, The Smokehouse, The Baths, Cornhill and St Stephen's Church.

The festival featured more than 70 acts entertaining crowds.

The Brighten The Corners team said: "We are over the moon to have been nominated.

"This year was our first year running the festival independently and the kind words we have received in the last few months have been truly amazing, we are so grateful to each and every one of our supporters.

"To be acknowledged and recognised for the work  we are doing and the quality live music we are bringing to Ipswich, not just for the festival weekend but the whole year with our Brighten The Corners Presents promotions, really means a lot to us.

"We've had an incredible year and still have so much to look forward to."

In a review from music magazine Clash, journalist Tom Kingsley said: "It's a showcase to the wider world of what Ipswich has to offer: in music, in venues, in people and ideas.

"It succeeds on every count."

The festival is set to return again in 2024, over the weekend of June 14 and 15.

This year's festival was such a huge success, that early bird tickets sold out within the first 12 hours.
