A man convicted of murder and a sugar daddy are among those who were jailed this week.
Oskars Kantors
Oskars Kantors, 29, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, November 17, and was sentenced for murdering 41-year-old Agris Leigavnieks in Leiston in October last year.
He was given a life sentence, of which he will have to serve a minimum of 21 years and 9 months before he can be considered for early release by the parole board.
At 8.50pm on October 17, 2022, police were called by the Ambulance Service reporting that a man had been assaulted at an address in Old School Close.
The victim - Agris Leigavnieks, aged 41 and also of Old School Close – was taken to Ipswich Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition, where he later sadly died.
Earlier in the trial, Kantors had admitted wanting to put Leigavnieks “in hospital”, believing him to be having an affair with Kantors’ girlfriend.
Kantors, of Old School Close, Leiston, had also been charged with two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm against two other victims, which he had previously admitted.
He had previously denied one count of murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.
Samuel Ward
Samuel Ward, 27, from Newmarket, was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Monday after pleading guilty to charges including making indecent images of children.
Ward mocked up online bank statements to trick teenage girls he found on social media into sending him sexually explicit photos for cash which never arrived.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) began an investigation into Ward after a 17-year-old girl from Florida approached US law enforcement after being targeted by him.
In May 2020, Ward approached her using two different Instagram accounts offering her a weekly fee of $500 for sending him sexual images and videos of her, which was never paid.
The investigators identified Ward as the scammer behind the 'sugar daddy' accounts and discovered that he had approached a total of 40 females - 33 in the UK, six in the US and one in Ireland.
He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and given a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
Claudio Da Costa, Daniel Guedes, Laurynas Talacka, Alfie Pollard and Andrius Budzius
Five youths were sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on November 16 after pleading guilty to the violent brawl caught on CCTV at Old Cattle Market bus station in Ipswich on June 22.
Claudio Da Costa, 18, of Primrose Hill, Ipswich, and Daniel Guedes, 18, of Broomwade Close, Ipswich, both pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Laurynas Talacka, 18, Chevalier Street, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon and breach of a criminal behaviour order.
All three were handed a 24-month sentence to be served in a youth offenders institute.
Alfie Pollard, 18, of Honeysuckle Gardens, Ipswich, was sentenced to 21 months in a youth offenders institute after pleading guilty to violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a controlled Class B drug (cannabis).
Andrius Budzius, 17, of Magdalene Close, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
He was given an 18-month Detention and Training Order, comprised of a nine-month custodial sentence and a further nine months under supervision.
Reporting restrictions were lifted by the court to name Budzius.
All five were subject to criminal behaviour orders, banning them from Ipswich town centre, defined as the area bordered by Civic Drive, Franciscan Way, Grey Friars and Star Lane.
