A police cordon remains in place as detectives continue to question three people on suspicion of murdering a newborn baby in Ipswich.

A murder probe was launched after police were called to Wilbury House in Norwich Road shortly after 12.30pm on Saturday.

Officers received reports a newborn baby had been found outside a premises.

The infant was declared dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics, a spokesman for Suffolk police said.

Two men and a female were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody for questioning.

The cordon has sealed off the driveways to Wilbury House, which is believed to have been a hotel and a house of multiple occupancy in the past.

It remained in place as of 8am on Sunday.

A large police presence, including a dogs unit and forensics van, was spotted outside the property throughout Saturday afternoon and evening.

Several police officers remained on the scene the following morning.
