The owners of a new inflatable ball park in Ipswich have apologised after people got trapped in the attraction on its first day.

Inflata Nation opened for the first time in the former Unit 17 nightclub in Cardinal Park on Satruday.

However, just hours after opening the attraction was forced to close after one of its blowers failed which led to part of the blow up arena to deflate

Some people had to be rescued from inside the ball pit as they were unable to get out.

The site was able to reopen on Sunday.

Bosses have said the blower failure was a "a highly unusual situation".

Michelle Ball, co-founder of Inflata Nation, said: "It was extremely disappointing that the opening day of Inflata Nation Ipswich did not go as planned.

"It is regrettable that there was a failure with one of the blowers that inflates one section of the arena during the 11am session. Whilst rare, sadly this can happen.

"As soon as we became aware of the failure all customers were safely evacuated from the arena and stranded customers assisted in getting off.

"We fully appreciate that some customers panicked when they were unable to get out of the ball pit themselves and other customers then went to the area to try and assist, but it only exacerbated the problem.

"However, after only a short time all customers were safely assisted out and no injuries occurred.

"The blower in question was identified, removed and quickly replaced.

"We have been safely operating inflatable parks since 2017. Ipswich is the 10th Inflata Nation park and as experienced and responsible operators we acknowledge the upset Saturday’s incident may have caused to some customers.

"We want to assure people that this is a highly unusual situation, not one we could have anticipated and certainly not what you should expect from a fun day out at Inflata Nation.

"Sadly, the site had to remain closed for the rest of the day but this was due to a strong chemical smell being emitted from the redevelopment of the new Five Guys site on the complex, which meant the evacuation and closure of several businesses that day in the same area.

"This is an issue we are addressing with Five Guys management directly.

"The blower failure and chemical smell were in no way linked, just an unfortunate coincidence."

Five Guys has been approached for a comment.
