From a man who breached a sexual harm prevention order four times to a serial burglar, here are some of the criminals jailed in Suffolk in January 2024.
Steven Perrio
Steven Perrio, 34, of Beavis Walk in Bury St Edmunds, was sentenced to nine months behind bars after punching a shopkeeper and stealing £2,000 of tobacco products at Eastgate Stores in Eastgate Street.
Perrio received two six-month prison sentences for the burglary and assault offences, which will run concurrently, and was ordered to pay £250 in compensation to the victim and £332 in costs and other charges.
He was also sentenced to three months imprisonment for breach of a suspended sentence on Wednesday, January 10.
Billy Swaley Smith
Billy Swaley Smith, 35 and of Tawneys Ride in Bures, pleaded guilty to a string of burglary offences.
He was arrested in Ipswich on August 18 last year and charged with three offences: a burglary in Chevallier Street in Ipswich where various items were stolen; one in Rushmere Road where jewellery and £1,000 in cash were stolen; and a third in Bixley Road in Ipswich where £800 was stolen.
After his arrest, he was then found guilty of a further 21 burglary offences.
He was jailed for four years and seven months on Tuesday, January 16.
John Smith
John Smith, of Portman Road in Ipswich, admitted to two attempted burglaries in Henley Road that took place in February last year.
After his arrest, Smith admitted a further eight counts of burglary in which he stole watches, antiques and jewellery.
Smith, 34, was sentenced to 27 months in prison at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday, January 18.
Ronald Bailey
Ronald Bailey, 72 and of Cranley Green Road, Redlingfield, near Eye, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday, January 25.
After his wife died, Bailey approached his friends and asked for money to help him sue the air ambulance service for making mistakes that he said led to his wife's death, but the funds he raised he pocketed.
The charges include four counts of theft of a motor vehicle and nine offences of fraud by false representation.
Bailey was jailed for 26 months and his victims are set to receive a £7,000 payout.
Joe McCallum
Joe McCallum, 34, of Westwood Avenue in Lowestoft, was jailed after pleading guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order at Ipswich Crown Court on Saturday, January 20.
McCallum was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, had his licence revoked and was ordered to pay a victim a surcharge of £154 after officers found a device with access to social media as well as an unregistered bank card at his address, both of which were breaches to the order.
Jamie Hunter
Jamie Hunter, 49 and of no fixed address but from the Mildenhall area, had previously been given a suspended sentence for breaching the terms of his criminal behaviour order on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
The order stopped him from being drunk in public places after repeated incidents of drunk, disorderly behaviour and anti-social behaviour.
His suspended sentence of 22 weeks in prison was activated at Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Friday, January 19, and he was ordered to pay £299 in costs.
