A band from Ipswich has recalled the "surreal" moment their latest single was played on national radio.

AFTERDRIVE, a group who formed in early 2022, has had their latest song, Often, played on both Radio X and BBC Radio 1.

The song, which was released on March 22, was played on Jess Iszatt's BBC Radio 1 Introducing show on Sunday, and on John Kennedy's X-Posure Radio X show on Saturday.

Both shows play music from new and upcoming artists, and in the past has highlighted Adele, Arctic Monkeys and Ed Sheeran.

AFTERDRIVE, made up of Ben Watts, Ed Ruff, Luke Ellis, who all met at One Sixth Form College in Ipswich, and Ben's brother Joe, has seen a rise in popularity, finding success on Spotify, with a combined 140,000 streams across their four singles.

On hearing their single played on national radio, Ed said: "It's such a surreal feeling to hear our song on Radio 1 and Radio X.

"We can't thank them enough, we've been working really hard as a band and we're proud of our music and what we've done so far so to see us getting played on there and receiving national recognition, we're over the moon.

"It's a massive step in the right direction to making this band full-time, it's a dream of all of ours and to see things start to fall into place is amazing."

Luke added: "Being played on national radio to such a large audience was amazing.

"We just want to get our music out there and reach new fans."

Brothers Ben and Joe added: "Our song being played on BBC Radio 1 felt like such a surreal experience.

"From writing music as brothers and as a band, to seeing our shared dreams unravel, felt amazing and we are very grateful."

The band are to perform at the BBC Introducing Suffolk gig at The Curve in Ipswich on April 25, and they are to headline a show at St Stephen's Church on May 17.
